Thomas, often called Doubting Thomas, was a disciple and apostle of Christ who followed him to Judea. He is most known for his incredulity at Christ's resurrection, stating "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe." He was in India when he was attacked by pagan priests and killed with a spear.

Thomas is frequently seen incredulously poking the wound in Jesus's side. Other attributes of his include a carpenter's square and a belt or girdle.
