Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Ecstasy of Saint Teresa, 1647-1652, marble, 3.5 m, Santa Maria della Vittoria, Roma

Teresa was a member of the Carmelite order known for her ecstatic visions which she recorded in writing.  She went on to reform the Carmelite order, and founded the Discalced Carmelites.

She is typically shown during one of her ecstatic visions (as can be seen here), however other depictions of her typically include her attributes:  a heart with thr initials IHS, an arrow (often piercing her own heart), and a dove.
