Jason is a classical hero who appears in mythology.  Jason was a prince, but his brother usurped the throne.  To reclaim his place, he must obtain the legendary Golden Fleece, guarded by a dragon.  Aboard his ship the Argo with his band of heroes called the Argonauts, he succeeds in his quest, and goes on many more adventures.  He was often helped by his wife, the sorceress Medea.

Jason typically appears in his quest for the Golden Fleece, as seen here, which also sometimes features a dragon.
